Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations
The Part B ammendment to the Building Regulations (2005) obliges householders to ensure that their electric wiring and installations are electrically safe.
Providing your home is inspectioned and certified out by someone defined as a Competent Person under the 2005 Act, you can ‘self-certify’ — i.e. avoid the cost and hassle of calling in the local council’s building control officer to do the job.
We can inspect and test your electrical installations, equipment and wiring — to ensure that they comply with the Part B ammendment.
Our inspection will be carried out and certified out by staff defined as Competent Persons under the 2005 Act — i.e. staff who are authorised and certified under one of the following trade schemes:
- The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC)
- ELECSA — operated by The Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA)
- The National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT)
Domestic inspections under these three schemes are very similar, but they do vary in their cost, convenience, and acceptability to insurance companies.
For example, the NICEIC is best known and, hence, most widely supported by insurance companies — but it is also the most expensive.
The cheaper ELECSA and NAPIT schemes are just as legally and technically valid, and you will find insurers willing to accept their certification, but doing so may involve a bit more effort.
If you prefer certification under a particular Competent Person scheme, just let us know which one and we’ll arrange for our inspection to be conducted by suitably qualified staff.
